Life is always better when you are the baby of the family, but when you reach your twenties and are the only one not married with three-five kids of your own, it becomes more of a chore than anything else. Suddenly everyone is turning to you as the king of babysitting, the one who doesn't have anyone waiting at home for him so of course he can watch the rugrats, especially now when grandma and grandpa are taking care of one of the other dozens of children running around. Caleb Parker is the youngest of three and at twenty-eight years old he is still the only son of Marcus and Kendra Parker who does not have his life as together as his family wishes. His two older brothers both have three - five kids, have been married since they were in their early twenties, and have professional careers. Meanwhile, Caleb is a twenty-eight year old mechanic who babysits his nieces and nephews almost every day, struggles to pay his rent every month, and usually winds up working two jobs at a time just so he doesn't have to bruise his pride and ask his parents for help. Life is not so sweet when you're the baby of the family and still the one who doesn't have it all together.
Marcus Parker raised all of his children to be self sufficent, never ask for money and never ask for help unless it is something that you absolutely can not do on your own. To outsiders, this may have come off as harsh or unfair, but to his children it was the best way he could have raised them. By the time his three boys were teenagers they all had a job after school and two jobs during the summer and breaks, they earned their own money and when times were slow and they had nothing to do, they all had chores they had to do. Marcus has always been hard on his boys but he was because he wanted to build strong men who could take care of themselves, he never wanted his boys to have to depend on another human being, even a spouse if they were ever to marry. Marriage is another thing that was pushed on the boys since they were old enough to date. The boys were always told to not waste their time with a woman they don't see a future with, it may be fun right now but you could hurt someone in the long run, always think of the damage you could cause another person before comiting to anything. For Caleb's older brothers, Jace and Anton, this way of thinking is how they found their current wives and created the beautiful families that they now have. For Caleb, this way of thinking is why at twenty-eight years old his most serious relationship was with his high school girlfriend who after four and a half years together, dumped him for the first guy he met in college. He has had difficulty finding another woman to see a future with since.
What he lacks in his romantic life, he makes up for in other areas, like his work life. With two older brothers as successful as his (one is a lawyer, the other engineer), Caleb has some mightly big shadows to follow, but he is content being the one in the shadows. He does not run his own practice and he does not make six figures a year, but what he does do is something that he loves and in his family, that is what is the most important. Working on cars is the one thing that Caleb and his father have in common. As a child, Caleb and his father used to spend hours in the garage every night, finding every possible excuse to stick their heads under the hood of the car and mess around with this part or that. By ten years old, Caleb knew everything there is to know. He could take apart a whole car and put it all back together all on his own, and would love every second of it. In high school he started working for a family friend in his garage, now thirteen years later and he is still working in the same garage for the same family friend (only making a bit more money now), and still loving every second of it. It is difficult during slow periods to live off the money he makes for the garage, so he also works part time in landscaping for another family friend,a great way to grab some extra cash when he is a little behind on bills. He may be the least successful one in his family, but he sometimes wonders if he is the happiest, because at times that is how he feels.
